Easter Sundial

Easter Sundial

We are now almost a month into the season of Lent and that means ministers of all faiths are diligently preparing for the Easter season.

Here’s the formula to calculate the date of Easter and the important daylight savings times for church services to be held.

Step one to calculate Easter on the calendar is to find the date of the spring equinox (March 20).

Step two is to find the full moon after the equinox (also known as the full paschal moon). That’s April 17 this year.

Step 3, Easter is the first Sunday after the full moon, this year falling on April 24.

Using the Charleston sundial, Easter Saturday night’s sunset falls at 8:09 and Easter Sunday’s glorious sunrise is at 6:39.
