Heat On Again

Heat Settles in for Opening of Fair Season

The county fair season is underway with the first stops in Eleanor and Proctorville this week.

If you are walking one the midways on Monday afternoon-night, a steamy tropical feel will hover in the air as skies turn hazily muggy. I expect Monday to be the “hottest” of the season, SO FAR!

Highs should make the low and mid 90s with bank thermometers reading as high as 97 or 98. The question as to the validity of those financial thermometers is academic since the “feel-like” temperature (combo of heat and humidity) will make 100 degrees.

Expectations are that the weather will remain rain-free thru sundown Monday for most as Ol Sol sets in a blaze of orangey glory.

But the later we get into the night on Monday, the better chance that thunderstorms arrive with briefly heavy rains and lightning strikes.

So construction workers and landscapers, pack plenty of water and sun screen for your Monday toils! Gardeners keep your eyes and ears to the western sky for storms Monday night and fingers crossed that rains are widespread not scattered and drenching not passing.

Since Monday night’s rains don’t exist right now, it is just not possible to say who gets hit hardest and who gets away with just a shower.
