Holiday Travelogue

Just a week before Thanksgiving now, so Tony is looking ahead with a weekend travel forecast.

Pre-Thanksgiving Travel Forecast

For the next ten days I am going to devote my blog space to one concept; namely, getting your loved ones into and out of our region without any weather surprises. Along the way, we will explore weather for buck hunters and we will look back at one of the greatest snowstorms in Appalachian history.

Since many people will be traveling this weekend before Thanksgiving, I want to alert people coming back to their roots here in Appalachia that the weekend ahead and much of next week will be mild for the season with little rain and no snow. That holds true for the period Friday thru next Tuesday.

Since our air will be coming from Dallas (where the Herd plays at SMU this weekend) during this time, daytime highs this weekend into the first half of next week will routinely make the 50s and several days will hit 60.

As for the game, factor in a gusty breeze and temperatures near 70 for your tailgate plans in Big D.

I do expect some Midwest rain by Sunday-Monday-Tuesday, so some travel delays into and out of Detroit International and Chicago’s O’Hare will be possible, but snow is not expected thru Tuesday at those prime hub cities.

By late next week and especially next weekend, a decided change to colder weather spells snow and ice for parts of the upper Midwest, Great Lakes and perhaps the Northeast. Time will tell where travel problems will be for the weekend after Thanksgiving.
