Fair Weather at the Fair
The county fair season is underway this weekend with the first stops in Eleanor and Proctorville for the Putnam and Lawrence County fairs respectively.
The pesky morning low cloud and fog deck will lift into a hazy sunshine today as afternoon highs head for the hot but tolerable 85-90 range. If you are walking the midway this afternoon, a sun block will come in handy while the summer haze will lend itself to a goodness gracious great balls of fire sunset this evening.
Theatre goers heading to Ritter Park for HOT's rendition of the Wedding Singer or to Jenny Wiley for Annie will be treated to a tropical paradise of an evening as temperatures settle back into the 70s after sunset.
Sunday will be a carbon copy of Saturday with the steamy meter cranked up a notch as highs make 90 in most areas. The exception will be mountainous West Virginia where whitewater enthusiasts will shoot the rapids along the New River with air temperatures in the 80s and water temperatures near 75 after Friday’s cooling rains.
Next chance of cooling rains will hold off until late Monday or even Tuesday afternoons as the haze, heat and humidity of the dog days of summer conspire to brew some afternoon pop-up thundershowers.
