March Lion Rather Tame for Weekend

Quiet H & G Weekend then Next Snow Next Week
The winter assault of snow and cold has relaxed this weekend in time for the Home and Garden Show at the Big Sandy in Huntington. Master Craftsmen, home experts and Green Thumb himself, John Marra, will welcome patrons by the thousands as all that pent up winter cabin fever gets released.
The weather will cooperate through Sunday with only a Saturday night shower and Sunday snow flurry to mar an otherwise nice second weekend of March.
Don’t be surprised if rooftops are dusted with snow on Sunday morning especially east of Charleston.
Saturday with a southerly wind, temperatures will rise into the 50s (60 south) but a wind shift to the north will reintroduce a crisper brand of late winter air on Sunday (afternoon temperatures in the 40s).
Looking ahead to next week, the March lamb will be mild and cuddly early on with sunshine warming the air toward 60. But legend warns us to “Beware the Ides” of March, In this case, the alert is for next Wednesday-Thursday as another southern storm targets our region with rain changing to snow.
Take a look at the European weather model for next Thursday. That’s a rather impressive Nor’easter with cold and snow on its back side, where we live!
Time will tell if the Euro is onto something but one thing for sure, it would be fitting for the Great Winter of 2014 to have a heavy wet snowstorm before the official equinox on March 20.
