November Shenanagins

The weather has finally turned for the season. Tony has the prose on the "reality check" we are in store for.

Wild Tuesday, Not Really

If you believe in turn-about fair play, then Tuesday’s weather fits the bill perfectly. After all, last week’s 6 day run of Indian Summer has set us up for a nasty payback from Mom Nature.

That payback began on Sunday with a leaden-grey overcast matching the somber mode on campus as the Marshall Memorial Fountain was turned off for the winter.

Then on Monday a cold and clammy autumn fog bank held in longer and stronger than forecasted. The grey, overcast skies that draped the heavens all day long reminded us that November is often the cloudiest month of the year.

Monday night saw a new round of showers move in, a sure sign a soaking rain had begun. Rural roads turned slick in spots as wet leaves did their best icy impersonation.

As for Tuesday, a developing southern storm will deliver a healthy slug of rain with many areas likely to see an inch of water. Localized street flooding will occur where storm drains, clogged with leaves, back-up.

The soaking rains will end with a rumble tonight as a short line of gusty thunderstorms crosses parts of the WSAZ.COM region. If Wednesday is your trash day, hold off putting those cans out until dawn since overnight high winds will sweep across the region with gusts to 40 even 50 window rattling miles per hour.

So a day of rain and a night of wind is ahead, just what the arthritis doctor didn’t order. If you suffer from rheumatism or arthritis or have a sports injury or trick knee, beware! Your pain medication will come in handy today.

Add it up and you will see why I say November is up to its old tricks this week. Nasty shenanagins for sure but nothing out of the ordinary for one of the windiest and greyest months of the year.
