Sweetheart Showers, Wet and White
This blog is devoted to all believers in Cupid and his “magical” arrows as I focus on your Valentine’s Day forecast. The son of Venus and the god of love, the wonder boy of romance is skilled at shooting his arrows in all sorts of weather.
On a day which historically can be bitter cold with arctic snow squalls and howling winds, Tuesday’s weather will be rather tame in comparison.
The Monday afternoon cloud cover increased on schedule as an area of rain and snow in the Mississippi Valley sent its cloud shield our way as an early reminder; namely, wet snow was due into the Ohio Valley by sunrise on Tuesday.
As has been the rule this winter, temperatures will be marginal for snow accumulation at dawn sitting near 32 in much of Southern Ohio and far Northern Kentucky (where a slushy coat was possible with a few school districts perhaps delaying the start of the learning day), yet 33-35 through the Kanawha Valley and Coalfields (where a bit of melting snow was possible though rain was favored after sunrise so the school bell will be on time).
Thanks to a southerly wind, air and ground temperatures will warm to 40 or better for most by afternoon melting away any nuisance accumulation of morning snow on grass and cars.
Since the damp and chilled air will be accompanied by nothing more than a light wind, wisps of fog will drape the hills. That will be especially true for travelers along the West Virginia turnpike and up I-77 and I-79 out of Charleston toward Parkersburg and Morgantown.
For your Tuesday night date, light rain showers will dampen cupid’s arrows with roads remaining just wet not icy.
Oddly, a dozen red roses bought this week would be able to thrive in the mid week warming (50s by Thursday), though the 7 day forecast indicates a trend for lows in the 20s and highs in the 40s into next week.
So if you are traveling in the morning, double check our updated forecast of a slushy coating in Ohio and Northern Kentucky. Otherwise, guys be gallant and have an umbrella handy as you sweep your sweetheart off her feet.
