Wild Week of Weather Extremes

March is known for wild weather extremes. Take this week when Tony says spring and winter will duke it out!

Roller Coaster Weather Week Ahead

Monday’s flirtation with spring awakened the crocus from their winter slumber. Now comes word of an even warmer day on Tuesday to set the trees and flowers to burst at the seams!

The stronger the afternoon breeze on Tuesday the higher the temperature as many thermometers aim for 70! That would challenge for the warmest day of 2014 set back on February 20 at 70/73 Charleston/Huntington respectively.

Recall how that last surge of warmth ended with a rash of strong wind storms. A church steeple was felled on the west end of Huntington as that front passed.

No reason to think we will not have a new round of strong thunder squalls on Wednesday as the next arctic front crosses, though pinpointing any spots of high wind damage is not possible this far in advance.

Behind that front comes another polar plunge as rain changes to sleet and snow. The sudden onslaught of harsh cold will offer the prospects of a new accumulation of ice and snow. That means slick travel on Wednesday night and likely another round of school delays and closings on Thursday.
