HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- You're never to old to need a family to love support and encourage you. That's the case for our featured teen tonight. Christopher is 17 and will be 18, legally an adult, in just a couple of months.
But, that's not stopping him from earnestly seeking a forever family--someone to lean on even as an adult.
Below, you can read his conversation with NewsChannel Three’s Carrie Cline:
Carrie: What do you like best about Christopher?
Chris: I'm smart. I make A's and B's every year. I learned to read when I was about 6. I really like sports. I like being outgoing around my friends and family. I like going outside a lot. I just like the fact that I pay attention in school so I can have a good education.
Carrie: What do you want to be when you grow up?
Chris: I really want to go into the military, the Marines and play football for the Navy team and go from there and get my Master's degree and become an MP-Military Police officer for about 8 years.
Carrie: What would your ideal family be?
Chris: Well, I would want a family that has structure, like any other family, likes church, involved in sports like football and baseball, that pretty much has their life together. I always wanted a family that was always there for me and supports me in anything I do... Basically is there to love me.
Carrie: You mentioned church, is church important to you?
Chris: Church has always been important to me. When I was with my dad, he made me go to Sunday School. I took advantage of that and went to Sunday School for two years. That's when I accepted God into my life on the Sunday School bus and I've been going to church since then every chance I get.
He helps me through the rough times and really allows me to enjoy the joyful times even more. When I'm going through rough times with not having a family, he's pretty much my family. I'm happy to have him.
Carrie: What would you say to make somebody want to adopt you even though you're 17?
Chris: It's always important for anyone out there. If you're just out there by yourself and not having anywhere to turn or someone to talk to, then you're going to have a pretty rough time and be depressed.
Christopher says the longest he’s ever lived in any one place is six years and is desperate to lay some roots.
