ATHENS, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Every parent wants a child who does well in school and sets high goals for his or her self.

That is certainly the case with a 16-year-old named Josh. He's a laidback teenager with many interests and a solid plan for the future. All he needs is a forever family to help make that happen. He has an interesting approach to getting good grades, but it's one of the many twists and turns that will make you want to pick up the phone in just minutes to make this week's "Carrie's Kid" your own.

Following is a Q&A between WSAZ.com's Carrie Cline and Josh:

Josh: I'd have to say I'm pretty smart for a guy like me. I get F's and then I pull it out as an A.

Carrie: So, you're like a comeback kid? Why do you start with F's?

Josh: I like the element of surprise. It’s not that I’m not capable; I just like to take my time. I also like art. I love art. One day, I hope to get a huge block of granite so I can carve something out.

Carrie: You like to cook?

Josh: I do like to cook.

Carrie: What's your best dish?

Josh: I would have to say my fried chicken. I make it with eggs, flour, seasonings in the flour and double dip. I also have seasonings that that are put on afterwards. I also fixed mashed potatoes and gravy. Sometimes I make the gravy and sometimes I buy it. I make the potatoes from scratch. I also like to grill, but you can't use charcoal. You have to use paper. It gives it smoky flavor. Charcoal makes it taste burnt.

Carrie: What kind of family do you want?

Josh: I don't want a family that when I grow up they're just going to kick me out of the house. I want them to be there until after I grow up and get on my feet, and then I'll go back and visit for holidays every once in a while. That's the kind of family I want. I want a family that's understanding, funny and nice to people. But, they're not always sitting on their butt. They're get up and go and spontaneous.

Josh is your typical teenage boy. He's not overly emotional or sappy about things, but he's clear when he talks about the desire for love and stability in a home.

When he grows up, he wants to be a chef or an engineer. In addition to his gourmet gusto, he's also a big science buff. This is a young man with drive guaranteed to make any parent proud.
