CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Where do you put 490 workers displaced by a basement-to-roof overhaul of the building that houses their offices?
That was the challenge faced by the West Virginia Real Estate Division. The agency needs to empty Building 3 at the Capitol Complex so the 57-year-old structure can be renovated.
Real Estate Division Executive Director Chuck Lawrence says the agency is acquiring additional buildings and using vacant space in existing state buildings to permanently house the displaced workers.
Agencies leaving Building 3 include the Division of Motor Vehicles and the Department of Health and Human Resources.
When the renovation is completed, Lawrence said the Treasurer's offices and the Auditor's offices will move to Building 3.
