CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Long time Charleston civic leader Angus Peyton died Thursday.
Peyton was chairman of the Kanawha Valley business group, BIDCO, for more than two decades. He served as commerce commissioner under West Virginia governor Hulett Smith.
One of the main projects he worked on was the development of Corridor G.
Friday, the Charleston Area Alliance released this statement:
"Mr. Peyton leaves a profound legacy that will continue to enhance the lives of Charlestonians for generations to come."
Peyton was 81 years old. He died at his home in South Hills.
The above photo was from an interview Peyton did with WSAZ in May, 2005. He was outside the Clay Center where a tree statue from Italy was being installed. He paid for the art project.

I work at a company which BIDCO/Alliance set up and help bring to Charleston. I thank Mr. Peyton.
If he helped to do the work of BIDCO and the Alliance that is a great public service... to help bring jobs to our community... I have heard very nice things about this man. It is also sad to see those who serve pass away but in their work they shall be remembered
My thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Peyton's family. He was a wonderful person and will be missed by many.
