CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Members of 1Sky brought their cause to Charleston this weekend to help ensure the one sky we do have stays clean.

Saturday evening, the group of environmentalistsgot together in Charleston. They want to create new green jobs, transition to new, renewable energy sources and curb global warming.

They're calling for reform in the U.S. Senate and more engagement from President Obama. Members of the 1Sky want to see stricter regulations on emissions standards.

Andrew Porter, group member, said, "It's important to show our leaders that people care and people are concerned about global warming and climate change, and people understand that something needs to be done, because otherwise, we'll be facing cataclysmic climate change."

Another event called Appalachia Powershift 09 are scheduled to meet Sunday night at 6:00 at Marshall University to discuss similar topics.

What the environmentalists don't get, is that there are already so many restrictions on coal already, to conform to EPA standards. The earth is worth saving. Agreed. However, if everyone finds themselves unemployed at an alarming rate, what is the environment going to be like, say, six months, instead of 6,000 years down the road? These people complaining about how others make a legitimate living are going to be the same people crying that their property values plummet when the workforce is not working, and crime, substance abuse and depression run rampant through the areas that they mistakenly are trying to improve. Coal just isn't like it was in the old days, and as much as the environmentalists accuse supporters of coal of being ignorant, it sure wouldn't hurt for them to get themselves better educated and informed.A ggod place to start would be by looking up "reclaimation".

When you have no answer attack the messengers, typical republican response. Independents rule and look at both sides of the issue, instead of attacking. Here we go again, the politics of FEAR. I thought Bush and Cheney were out of office, oh yes they are , thank goodness!!
