CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia state workers got a Christmas gift from Gov. Joe Manchin about a month before the holiday.

Manchin has declared an additional half day off on Christmas Eve, which is already a half day on the state calendar.

That means state workers will get the whole day off.

Manchin says he wants to give state employees more time with family, whether that means traveling, preparing for a celebration or something else.

The additional time off won't be charged to state workers' annual leave.

The declaration, though, does not create a legal holiday, meaning it doesn't affect people working in private business or local government.

For the record, I'm happy with the extra four hours off. For those of you that complain, the State of WV hires everyday!!! Now, what about New Years Eve......

State workers need time off like anybody else but the press and the government would have you believe they are doing us a favor by giving it to us. And the other commentor hit the nail on the head. If they cant afford 500 dollar bonuses, where did they get the money for 60,000 dollars worth of partys? Our bonus money is paying for it. You want to know what the real kicker is? There is not a dam thing we can do about it but bend over and take it up the tailpipe!
