What is WSAZ Charleston?
WSAZ Charleston is WSAZ's Charleston-located television station that provides a custom, hyperlocal news broadcast specifically for Kanawha Valley viewers.

News crews work out the Charleston station and are able to quickly respond to breaking news that's happening in the Kanawha Valley.

WSAZ has two full news & production teams that bring you two simultaneous newscasts -- one for people in Kanawha County, the other for viewers in Huntington, Ohio, and Kentucky.

Weeknights during the 6pm and 11pm newscasts on WSAZ, Jessica Ralston and Tim Irr start together -- but at a specific point, Jessica and the Charleston production crew "split" away from the Huntington studio. At this point, people watching in Charleston only see Jessica, and everyone else sees Tim. The result is seamless, but viewers in Charleston will likely notice the hyperlocal story coverage.

Who Sees the Special Charleston-focused Newscast?
Anyone in Kanawha County who subscribes to Suddenlink cable should see the Charleston version of WSAZ newscasts on cable channel 4.

Viewers without cable can also see the custom Charleston newscast on channel 16 with an antenna. This is a low-power television broadcast (LPTV) will not be affected by the February 2009 deadline for termination of full-power transmission.

How Can I Tell if I'm Seeing Huntington or Charleston?
Besides seeing Jessica Ralston or Tim Irr more than the other, it's easy to tell if you are watching the Charleston or Huntington version of WSAZ.

In the lower-right corner of your screen, look at the logo, otherwise known as the "bug." If you see the logo to the left, you're watching our Charleston feed. It has "Charleston" written in a red font. The temperature displayed on the bug is measured at our Charleston studio.

If you see the logo to the left, then you're seeing the marketwide version of WSAZ newscasts. It has "NewsChannel" in a blue font. The temperature displayed on the bug is measured at our Huntington studio.
