IRONTON, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Each day when you wake up, you never know how you are going to inspire others.
That is certainly the case for 8-year-old Holden Topping, our latest Hometown Hero.
A gesture to help one person ended up teaching a lesson of love for countless others.
Holden started a trend he never saw coming when he shaved his head in honor of his mother, Stefanie Rodgers, who is bravely battling breast cancer.
"I knew she was going to lose her hair, so I shaved it in honor for her," Holden said.
A subsequent trip to the principal's office at Ironton Elementary School sparked something special -- a fundraising effort that helped raise nearly $1,500 for the Edwards Comprehensive Care Center at Cabell Huntington Hospital.
The fundraiser was known as hat day, and some fellow students shaved their heads as a show of solidarity.
Holden's fellow students and school teachers and administrators say he's an inspiration to all.
