Hometown Hero: Ironton Memorial Day Parade Committee

IRONTON, Ohio (WSAZ) -- The Ironton Memorial Day Parade Committee is a big part of the success of the longest continuous running Decoration Day parade in the country.

Last month, folks lined the streets of Ironton some 30,000 strong on Memorial Day -- just like they have since the days of President Grant, they came to wave Old Glory and renew acquaintances.

People of all ages, including those whose parents and grandparents served in the likes of World War II, turned the event into a festive yet somber occasion – one filled with remembrance.

Because of the committee’s dedication to the parade, it has earned the distinction as WSAZ.com’s latest Hometown Hero.
