The best time to plant grass is fall, with spring coming in second. The best time to control crabgrass is in the early spring before it germinates. As for your trees that lose their leaves, the best time to prune them is in February. However, hear ye hear ye, and hear ye once more, the best time to get rid of moles that feed on white grubs is quickly approaching.
Mark your calendar for the last week of July through the first week of August. I wish I had a quarter for every time I made this recommendation over the last few months.
If you get rid of the grubs during the two week time span mentioned above, your moles living in your landscape will find other accommodations.
There are several commercial products out there that do a great job, with those containing MERIT doing the best. What happens when you broadcast the grub control during the right time is that the grass will absorb the chemical. However, when the white grub, which is the larvae form of the green beetle, Japanese beetle, May beetle and June beetle start to nibble on your grass roots, they will soon succumb to the chemical you applied.
I've talked to many homeowners who performed the right management, but had little control. You have to remember one thing: the chemical you apply needs to be watered either by rain or irrigation within seven days after you apply that pesticide chemical.
