HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- I thought I would give you some type of calendar for landscape maintenance. All of these may not pertain to your landscape but these ideas can make your yard and even inside your home more enjoyable.

In about two weeks, you can start killing off your existing grass if you desire to reseed your entire lawn. You can then plant grass say around the first of September. Talking about September, that's a great month to dig up herbaceous perennials like peonies and iris and replant them. If you haven't brought in your house plants from outdoors, better get that chore done before the temperatures drop too low. Try and bring them in little by little over a week period of time.

September is also great for transplanting any shrubs and trees from one location to another in your landscape. Remember that also goes for spring.

Moving right along in the calendar, rose cuttings can be be rooted around the first of November. By spring, you can have new roses in your landscape. Need to trim up those trees and shrubs that lose their leaves in the fall? You can start in November but better yet wait until about the middle of February when the pruning cuts will heal much much better.

Don't forget to put extra mulch around those crape myrtle say 4-6 inches worth before freezing temperatures arrive but keep the mulch from touching the bark itself. There you have it, a brief landscape maintenance calendar for the next few months.
