With the ups and downs of our weather playing tricks with your outside landscape, it might be time to anticipate the coming of spring.

Certainly its easier to think about spring chores with the temperatures reaching spring like conditions sometimes. Here are a few things to consider while we sit inside with the anticipation of the start of the growing season.

First of all, get out the mower and drain it of old fuel and add a little new gas with a fuel conditioner and run it out. While you have the mower out, check the blades to see if they need sharpened.

If you haven't limed, do it now and better yet you should have done this garden chore early winter. I've always said it's never too late to lime but there is a best time and that is November and December.

If you are a avid gardener, make sure you get to the seed racks before they are depleted of your favorite varieties. Gardeners should consider choosing 10 percent new varieties in their garden each year.

Finally, take an inventory of your pesticide on the shelf and make sure they are in safe condition. By safe, make sure the label is still attached, keep liquid pesticides from freezing and if you need to dispose of any containers, follow the safe disposal recommendations from your State Department of Agriculture. For instance, if you live in West Virginia and have a General Use Pesticide you want to dispose of, wrap it up in at least 3 layers of newspaper and then you can dispose of it in a trash receptacle.
