Day 2, Monday March 22

"It may erupt tomorrow" one of the guides at Volcano National Park on
the island of Hilo told our tour group.

He was refering to Kilauea volcano which last erupted back in 1975. Actually, it's been flowing lava since 1983 and added over 600 acres to the island.

Our group was able to look down into Kiluea's crater where massive
clouds of steam and sulfur gas fills the skies for miles. Sulfur gas also comes up from the molten lava from many vents which visitors can see and feel it's warmth.

It's interesting to view the solidified lava flows of past years where
the newer flows are dark in color compared to older flows which are
much lighter. When they overlap, the color contrast is striking.
