Green Thumb: Smoking and Curing Meats

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Smoked ham and bacon -- we love to sink our teeth into one of those great morsels.

But, do you know what it takes to get a quality smoked ham or bacon? Our Green Thumb expert John Marra gets out of the garden and goes into the kitchen.

Many 4-H and FFA youth organizations in our area actually have ham and bacon projects where they learn the art of smoking and curing meats, then sell their meat at public auction.
