CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A grassroots education and advocacy group is working to shine a light on the state's budget issues.

On Wednesday, Protect West Virginia gathered on the Capitol steps to talk about budget cuts to education and senior services.

For the fifth consecutive year, the state is facing a budget deficit and this group says the cuts proposed could hurt.

The group suggests that the state reinstate the business tax cuts that were enacted in 2006, place a surcharge on households with more than $200,000 in annual income and create a sugary drink tax.
