SPENCER, W.Va. (RCHS) -- Skateboarders in Spencer do not expect a handout.
Nearly two years ago Grayson Hall and Marshall Jarvis decided what they had to do to get a skate park built in their community. They didn’t really have a place to skate without disturbing their town so they pursued the mayor, Terry Williams, with their ideas.
Since then they have done the typical fundraisers such as hotdog sales and car washes, and not-so-typical fundraisers using myspace and internet competitions.
To build the skate park they want that was designed by a professional designer, they're going to need approximately 75 thousand dollars. Right now, they are ten thousand dollars closer to their goal. There is still a long road ahead of them but they are off to a great start.
Local merchant, Jon Rogers, says that all he sees is kids willing to work and do what needs to be done to see this built.
