The power of one choice can mean the difference between life of death for any of us, but for teens, understanding that fact is critical to them learning to lead a successful life.
In Ironton, it took a world-renowned musician to hit that message and leave a resounding effect. JV Collier is his name and music is his fame, but sharing a positive message with young people is the game he lives for.
JV Collier is a bass guitarist currently playing for Bruce Hornsby, but music is his means to a much greater calling. For Kyle Baldridge, his time is running out. He’s a senior at Ironton High School with a burden on his heart to help put spread JV's message.
“I’m a Christian and want others to know the power of God,” Kyle said.
Patrick Lewis is on the other side of the coin. The seventh grader is learning now that it's never too early to have a positive impact.
“We want to be the vehicle that gets the word out.” Dr. Charles Jarrett said.
Dr. Charles Jarrett and Robert Pleasant lead the effort sponsored by Ohio University-Southern. This is the third time for the event that keeps growing.
“This year, it was a whole week,” Dr. Jarrett said.
“Just have to take these things seriously and JV wants young people to know they can do whatever they want regardless of the restrictions of their circumstances,” Kyle said.
JV was born in Tennessee in Appalachia and knows the challenges of living in a rural area with restricted opportunities, but he pursued music and excelled with it.
Ohio University-Southern plans to invite JV back as a regular guest to share his message in and out of the classroom.
