HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (MU Release) – Marshall University’s Board of Governors today approved a tuition and fee increase of $119 per semester for all full-time undergraduate resident students for fiscal year 2008-2009.
Tuition and fee increases of $219 for metro and non-resident students also were approved. The funds from this increase will be used to cover significant additional operating expenses that Marshall University will incur during the 2008-2009 fiscal year.
The Board also approved an average room and board increase of $196 per semester, bringing the total increase in tuition, room and board to $315 per semester for West Virginia students living on campus.
Tuition and fees for students in the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine were increased $239 for resident students and $624 for non-resident students.
An additional $150 per-semester fee will be assessed beginning with the spring 2009 semester, which is when the new Student Recreation Center will open.
Student support for the Recreation Center has been overwhelmingly positive, dating back several years to when the students voted to approve a fee increase to help fund a new Center. The Center, located on the corner of 20th Street and Fifth Avenue, is in mid-construction and will open in February 2009.
