Honolulu, HI (NBC News) -- The last of the individual state quarters went into circulation Monday.

The coin representing the state of Hawaii is the 50th and final coin released in the series.

The release also signals the end of the ten-year 50 State Quarters Program.

The reverse of Hawaii’s quarter features Hawaiian monarch King Kamehameha I stretching his hand toward the eight major Hawaiian Islands.

Four other designs were also considered during the selection.

I've been really impressed by the designs on some of the state quarters. They have been beautiful.
