RAVENSWOOD, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A company in Ravenswood has laid off more than two dozen workers.

Alcan Rolled Products laid off 29 salaried employees last week, Mark Zelazny, Communications Manager said. The company blames the economy and unfavorable market conditions.

This isn't the first time the company has announced layoffs. Back in January, Alcan eliminated 168 positions at its Ravenswood plant.

Ravenswood has been hit hard in the last few months. Earlier this year, Century Aluminum closed, leaving more than 600 workers without jobs.

Yes! Yes! Yes! I agree with you 100%. A lot of those salaried employees, it seems, do just sit around and collect a check, with no actual responsibility or purpose. It seems as though there isn't anyone making any good decisions for the plant or the HOURLY workers at that. And for those hourly workers who are using their FMLA incorrectly, it would seem that they do not need their job very badly, so why not just quit if they've got something better to do because they are just wasting space and a job that someone else would love to have. I'm not sure why the people who can retire, won't though. Maybe they don't know what they would do without their job or maybe it's greed. I guess we'll never know. I think it's great that you stand behind your husband and can draw your own conclusion when most wives don't even have a clue as to what's going on. I hope the best for you and your husband and may God bless you.

They needed to get rid of most of those foremans' and other salaried employees! My husband worked at Alcan and I can remember him talking about how those people really didn't have a purpose for being there. With the foremans' especially, when the hourly workers would tell them a specific problem with a machine or something, the foreman would just say "Oh we'll look into it" and then never do anything about it. They needed to get rid of the people who weren't serving a purpose and keep their hourly employees. Or these people who were using FMLA every other day. Get rid of them!! They apparently don't care if they work or not and let some of these other people who want to be at work, work.Or these people who just simply will not retire! They've put in their 30 years or so. Let someone else have a chance to work. Now my husband is laid off, along with a lot of others, and there aren't any jobs here, and unemployment BITES!! I really sympathize with all of you people who actually WORKED!!
