PRESTONSBURG, KY (WSAZ) – A Prestonsburg-based mining company is closing, according to a report from a local newspaper.

A Floyd County newspaper reports that Black Diamond Mining is shutting down Friday.

In February 2008, the company filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy.

According to the paper, the economy is one of the main reasons for the decision to close.

The report says that back in March, the company talked about its plan to emerge from bankruptcy this year.

Black Diamond Mining has operated three surface mines and 10 underground mines in eastern Kentucky.

No word on how many people are out of a job.

everyone that supports coal, needs to call and E-mail their senators. Heck if you support any kind of blue collar job, you need to call them. The climate bill passed in the congress, but the senate hasn't voted on it yet. It's time to make some noise. I have read some parts of this bill. It will make it impossible for most corp. to compete. Jobs will be lost

The stupidity of some people. Bush had absolutely nothing to do with the WORLD FINANICIAL DISASTER. It was greed and politics that brought us to this level. You can not continue to provide unsecured loans, loans to people who already are buried in debt and expect a good outcome. Now Mr. Obama did have a tremendous bit of responsibility to this problem but of course you will no longer hear about in the media. The coal miners always suffer but as always they will survive. For those of you Liberalists Mr. Obama did say he would put the coal industry out of business now didn't he. Undisputed!! Isn't it great that the U.S.A voted the weakest politician into the greatest office of the world. See how much respect he gets from the world. Right! When elephants fly!
