CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The HOME Program and HOME Blend Program (First Time Home Buyers) are both are designed to assist low-mod persons in becoming a homeowner.

Zora Rogers is HOME Program Supervisor. She stopped by First at Five Thursday to talk about how the program gets people to own their own piece of the American Dream.

Here's what you need to know:

HOME is:

  • A first time home buyers down payment and closing cost assistance program
  • Currently, it will provide 30% of the sales price and $1500.00 towards closing cost in the form of a forgivable loan.
  • Income limits apply
  • No application fee

Anyone interested in an application can call (304) 348-8035.

The process requires home buyer education, so this is a program for individuals who may not be sure they are ready to purchase. It is designed to help clients make that decision.

Because I earned an eduation that gives me a higher paying job, I never qualify for these programs, but I sure do pay a lot of taxes for them. For the record, I am not rich.

I personally know people who have used this program and they are hard working people who just couldn't afford to buy a decent house without this program. I know i could have qualified for the program but my need for a house was immediate and this process takes some time. I know that it would have helped me out a great deal since almost one full paycheck of mine is my house payment. This program is an acutal benefit. I pay my taxes and I'm not mad for the people who are able to use this program.

Please share with us where you think our tax dollars should be spent since you're so opinionated and knowledgeable about the subject.
