CHARLESTON, W. Va. (WSAZ) -- Countless women have been waiting a long time for this. The "Sex and the City" movie opened Friday across the country and it prompted many "Girls Nights" out.
"It's a chick flick," one movie patron told WSAZ.com.
Another said, "We got our tickets yesterday (Thursday). Just in case!"
The fans of the hit HBO show are not just ready to see the movie. They dressed for the part.
"All week we've been calling each other," one moviegoer said about the plan to dress like the characters.
"I can tell who is seeing it and who is not," Chris Prichard, manager of the Marquee Cinemas in Charleston said. "I just look at the shoes and the outfit."
It is on somewhat equal "footing" with the premier of the Star Wars movies and the fans who wore costumes to that.
At Yarid's, a women's shoe store in Charleston, Sex and the City means business.
"Sex and the City has been a huge part of our business for the past six years," Emilie Couch, owner of Yarid's, said. "Women watch the show and see what's on there. It's really changed the trends."
For some the movie is about friendship.
"This is a sister's treat. She said we're going to do this, leave the kids at home," Jonda Ballew from Sissonville said.
The movie is expected to set records for so-called "chick flicks", although locally it was not sold out. Movie managers put the premiere of this movie on par with the premiere of Indiana Jones one week ago.
