A great weekend of bluegrass music has come and gone in Scottown, Ohio. We take a few minutes to look back at the 7th Annual Appalachian Uprising.
Last week’s flash flooding nearly washed out the 7th Annual Appalachian Uprising.
However, Festival Organizer Steve Cielec was on top of the situation. "We got a lot of rain. We had a few tents washed away, but nobody was hurt, everybody's safe."
But the skies finally cleared and it was on with the show, on stage both on and off the stage.
And, if you forgot your ax, Randy Ackerson of the Music Box Express out of Ashland had a replacement. "We just decided it would be fun to do. Get our name out, our store, show some instruments and see what happens."
Some vendors are from California or just across the river in Huntington, like Mark Connelly with Scent from Heaven. "Always glad to be here. This is our 5th one in a row. We love it, the people who put it on are fantastic, and the place is beautiful, we're just happy to be here."
Steve Cielec started the Appalachian Uprising seven years ago. It's family friendly festival with a wide array of old grass and new grass. "We try to book national acts and we try to book eclectic acts. It's not totally straight, traditional bluegrass. We have modern bluegrass, newgrass.
The Appalachian Uprising has quietly become an important, early season bluegrass festival and is only expected to grow bigger and better.
