HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- There will be no swine flu vaccine frenzy this year.
Now that swine flu, also known as H1N1, is established and well documented, the vaccine for that strain of flu automatically will be included in the seasonal flu vaccine this year.
"Last year, it (H1N1) was a new strain, and the seasonal flu shot had already been made prior to the H1N1 outbreak," said Elizabeth Ayers with the Cabell Huntington Health Department. "That's why a new shot had to be made; that's why we ended up having two shots."
Also new this year are the latest guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). A record vaccine supply is expected on the heels of new universal guidelines.
The only people now who aren't recommended to get the flu shot are those under 6 months old and people with an allergy to eggs.
