Gallia Co. Sheriff's Office Investigates Rash of Burglaries

GALLIA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The Gallia County Sheriff's Office is investigating a rash of burglaries throughout the county.

The two most recent burglaries happened in Bidwell.

One at the Dollar General on Rt. 160 and another at the county landfill office.

Burglars stole the safe with $10,000 from Dollar General and items from the landfill office.

Workers in Bidwell say they hear stories businesses and homes being broken in to on a regular basis.

Owners of neighboring businesses say they are worried to even leave their stores for fear of it happening again.

For Korner Store cashier, Carol Phillips, that fear has already become a reality.

"My husband was broken into a couple months ago. They stole a bunch of tools, and it's just about everyday that you hear somebody getting broken into around here," said Phillips.

Sheriff Joe Browning says the number of break-ins have increased with the arrival of holiday season, and the best way to protect yourself is by simply locking all doors or installing an alarm system.

The Sheriff's Office do have suspects in some of the burglaries. If you have any information, give the Sheriff's Office a call.
