IRONTON, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Back to school shopping might be the best part of hitting the classroom, but it can be a stressful time for cash- strapped parents.

Saturday, 2,000 backpacks were filled with school supplies and handed out at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ironton. Churches from around the area donate backpacks, then fill them full of school supplies.

This was the sixth annual "Tools 4 School" giveaway.

St. Paul's says they've given out nearly 9,000 backpacks stuffed with supplies to kids in 28 school districts in the past five years.

Jenn, these school supply lists vary by different teachers. One teacher may only require the basics when another teacher (the ones my kids always had) require special things, that's where the price goes up. I'm glad you only have to pay 10.00, the least I've ever spent was 40.00 for one child.

I am not sure where Mary bought her kids school supplies but my son is going to Greenup and his supply list cost me like $10.00. There is an optional donation list and even it was about $25.00. Also, there have been several churches in the area(lewis and greenup) that have done back to school give a way days

Remember when our tax dollars used to buy the supplies? Now tax rates are higher than ever and we are supposed to provide more supplies than ever.
