WASHINGTON (AP) -- Rep. Nick Rahall says he improperly used congressional stationery to ask a judge for leniency for his son in a 2005 robbery case.
The West Virginia Democrat said in a statement that he should have used personal stationery when writing about his son Nick Joe Rahall.
The elder Rahall says in the emotion of the moment, he may have used the wrong stack of paper, but that his message was "100 percent from the heart of a father."
He says he will be reimbursing the U.S. Treasury for the paper.
The Politico newspaper says Nick Joe Rahall received a four-year suspended sentence from a Fairfax, Va., court. The publication first reported the misuse of the letterhead.

You cain't vote these old timers out. They are in until the cows come home. Who votes them in every time? Not me! I just get tired of hearing the same old names and seeing the same old faces. If he would just change his name to The Congressman Formerly Known As Nick it would be something new. I bet he touches up his hair and eyebrows. What in the heck does he do all day? Does he live with Jay Rockefeller? Where does Jay Rockefeller live and what does he do all day? What ever happened to Mr. Cartoon and Beeper? Never mind...I have it all figured out now.
