KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Seven years later the hurt feelings and desperation remain for the families of the sniper shooting victims.

With three murders in just four days in the summer of 2003, people in the Kanawha Valley were terrorized.

The case remains unsolved.

Saturday night friends and family came together for a candlelight vigil.

It’s one tradition the families never expected to last this long.

For the families of the sniper victims, time hasn't healed any wounds.

"We have people who say it gets better with time,” Karen Mance, whose sister Jeanie Patton was killed, said. “It hasn't been easy. There's not a day that goes by that we don't think about her and a tear's not shed."

“It's actually kind of worse cause there's no answer, no hope in a way,” Jeanie’s father Larry Patton said. “It doesn’t seem like we're any closer to finding out who did it."

The first shooting happened August 10, 2003 at the Go-Mart on Bigley Avenue in Charleston. Gary Carrier Jr. was shot and killed while talking on a payphone outside the store.

Four days later Jeanie Patton was shot and killed while pumping gas at the Speedway on Campbells Creek.

Then 90 minutes later Okey Meadows Jr. was shot while standing in line to buy milk at the Go-Mart in Cedar Grove.

"Some days, I can't believe it's been seven years,” Mance said. “It feels like it was just yesterday. Other days it just seems like it's been a long time since you heard her laugh."

With no arrests, the families' frustrations have continued to build.

"We're not really hopeful that a lot's happening,” Okey Meadows Sr. said. “We don't hear much about what's happening, so I guess not much is happening. We have to remain hopeful that they'll eventually catch the idiot that did it."

There’s still a hundred thousand dollar reward for any information that will lead to an arrest.

If you know anything about the shootings you're asked to contact the FBI, the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department, or the Charleston Police Department.

Something should be on the weapon. Night shots were fired, two weeks prior. And"THEY"are still free seven years later. Now ask yourself why no one ever came foward? You have ears but you do not hear.

Does anyone know if any one of these victims were related to the 11 year old girl that was molested by her stepfather, and the stepfather was sentenced around this same time? trying to connect some dots in my mind.

I think the person responsible for this still resides in Charleston, and lives on Charleston's west side, where the shootings started.
