CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- The Obama administration's top energy official is coming to West Virginia next month to talk about coal.
U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu is taking part in a Sept. 8 forum at the University of Charleston.
The forum's focus is on the future of coal. Chu is slated to discuss efforts to capture and store the carbon dioxide released when coal burns.
This greenhouse gas is blamed for contributing to global warming. Carbon capture seeks to pump it underground instead of into the atmosphere.
U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller invited Chu to the forum. The West Virginia Democrat is also participating, and has co-sponsored carbon capture legislation.
UC plans to release details as they become available. It hosted two other coal-related forums earlier this year.

Delano, I agree with you. You referenced all the previous posts, but maybe mine wasn't up yet. "Dear Delano" I doubt you're nearly as educated as me. Not important though, because this guest speaker has FAR more knowledge than both of us on the subject. Too many WV residents think that if its good for the environment its bad for WV. This man is trying to develop a technology that will KEEP our coal industry viable, not destroy it. It's time for all of you ignorant folks to wise up and learn to embrace some new ideas.
I'm glad I didn't drink the cool-aid as you apparently have. It gave you some grand opinion of yourself as being above the rest of us hillbilly lowlifes. I am an educated person, probably more so than you and I share the feelings of many of the posts on here. Get over yourself.
turn out the lights if we dont get these pot smoking hippies out of office soon.
