Mom Speaks Out About Why Her Children Weren't Restrained Before Deadly Crash
A Pennsylvania mother says two children who died when the family's van wrecked in West Virginia weren't in restraints because their booster seats had to be tossed after one child vomited on them.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- A Pennsylvania mother says two children who died when the family's van wrecked in West Virginia weren't in restraints because their booster seats had to be tossed after one child vomited on them.
Thirty-six-year-old Carla Aiken of Cranberry Township, Pa., told Pittsburgh television station WTAE that her 7-year-old son, Logan Beckwith, and 6-year-old daughter, Haley Weiland, were in booster seats until Logan became ill.
Police say the family was returning from Myrtle Beach, S.C., on Tuesday when the van went out of control and rolled several times on Interstate 79 near Clendenin.
Logan and Haley were ejected and were killed.
Aiken's 10-year-old son was wearing a seatbelt and received minor injuries.
Aiken, her boyfriend and her grandmother also were injured. The grandmother remains hospitalized.

CLENDENIN, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The mother of the two children who were killed in an accident along Interstate 77 near Clendenin has been released from the hospital.
Carla Aiken was released Tuesday. Her boyfriend, Christopher Gardner has also been discharged.
As of Wednesday morning, Carla's grandmother, Hazel Hillard, 74, was still in ICU at CAMC General.
Investigators believe Carla, 36, lost control of the Mazda MPV which caused it to roll into the median several times.
Haley Weiland, 6, and Logan Beckwith, 7, who were not restrained, were both thrown from the vehicle and killed.
Ethan Beckwith, 10, was restrained and received minor injuries.

CLENDENIN, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Investigators believe driver Carla Aiken, 36, lost control of the Mazda MPV which caused it to roll into the median several times. Haley Weiland, 6, and Logan Beckwith, 7, who were not restrained, were both thrown from the vehicle and killed. Ethan Beckwith, 10, was restrained and received minor injuries. Hazel Hillard, 74, is in critical condition at CAMC. Christopher Gardner, 27, and Carla Aiken are also at CAMC with serious injuries.
Aiken is the mother of the children. The relationship among the others has not been determined. They are all from Prospect, Pa. They were returning home from a trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor at this time.

CLENDENIN, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- All lanes of Interstate 79 between Elkview and Amma are now open.

CLENDENIN, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Four people were taken to the hospital after the accident. Police say at this point it looks like speed was not a factor in the crash.

CLENDENIN, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- One northbound lane of Interstate 79 is back open.

CLENDENIN, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Emergency crews are on the scene of a fatal accident along Interstate 79 in Clendenin.
The accident happened just after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the northbound lanes of I-79.
Kanawha County 911 Dispatchers tell WSAZ.com the minivan rolled at least ten times before coming to a stop in the median. Two people were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the dispatcher.
Dispatchers also tell WSAZ.com three other people have been hurt in the accident and one of them is still trapped in the vehicle. No word on the extent of these injuries.
A witness at the scene says speed did not appear to be a factor in the crash.
The northbound and southbound lanes of I-79 are shut down at this time between Elkview and Amma.

HOWEVER MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH THE MOTHER, FOR SHE IS GOING TO HAVE TO LIVE WITH THIS DICISION THAT SHE MADE!!
You people are so rude all you can think about is the mistake she made...we all make em some have worse reprocussions than others but it does not mean she didnt love her kids or she was a bad mom or whatever...this is my friends little sister that passed away in this accident and ya'll are too ignorant to think about the pain that family is goin through and what happened to those babies...all you guys can think about is the car seat...GROW UP R.I.P HAILEY AND LOGAN
People you all need to stop , she knows what she did was wrong , also if you look at the back of the car it is crushed so what if they did have seat belts on they would be veggie's for the rest of their lives or would have died anyways so at least my brother and sister died instantly , i love you carla and everyone of the people who are hurting from this , those people who have nothing nice to say shut up and stop naggging on Carla , she doesn't need you judging her , whats she supposed to do go to jail and leave her other son who is still alive with just his dad , he already lost his brother and sister don't take his mom too , PLEASE don't forget about the other child who is hurting from this .
