UPDATE 9/7/10 @ 11:30 p.m.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Weeks later, deputies have tracked down the man they say broke in to the Dollar General on Campbells Creek Drive in Kanawha County.

An interview aired on WSAZ on Aug. 25 actually played a big part in the arrest, investigators say.

Investigators and reporters alike often rely on people who live near a crime scene for information.

But in this case, one source helped deputies in a very significant way.

After the break-in at his neighborhood Dollar General, Zackory Pullens told WSAZ.com he was concerned for his community.

"Everybody shops there. It's a good place. Good people work there. It's a really friendly place to go to," Pullens says.

Pullens told us he heard some loud noises at the store, which is across the street from his house.

"Glass was shattered. So, I stuck my head in the window, thinking there was somebody in there. I hollered. I was like, 'Hello, is anybody in there? Just to let you know I called the cops,' " Pullens told us.

Deputies say it turns out his story's not true. In fact, they say he never called police.

What’s more, the once-concerned neighbor is now charged with breaking and entering.

"It was so blatant that his clothing was very similar to the person who was standing at the broken glass at the Dollar General that it was almost hard to believe that this could be our suspect, and it was easily being handed to us," Detective A.C. Pile says.

Pullens didn't have much to say to WSAZ.com Tuesday night, but deputies say he confessed to the break in.

When they went to his house last week, they found a Dollar General bag on his porch filled with items reported from the store.

According to a criminal complaint, Pullens has confessed to breaking into the store.

During his arraignment, the magistrate told Pullens not to go into any Dollar General stores.

Because Pullens is cooperating with investigators, the judge says he set bond lower than usual in a case like this one. He set it at $5,000.

Pullens is due in court Sept. 17.

UPDATE 8/26/10 @ 11:55 p.m.
KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Two men were caught on tape breaking into the Dollar General store on Campbells Creek Drive in Kanawha County.

The break-in happened late Tuesday night and now deputies are searching for two men

One neighbor said knew something wasn't right when he heard a loud noise from across the street, and that's when he decided to investigate.

"I was upstairs watching a movie and heard a big bang," Zack Pullens said. "I walked outside and looked around."

Pullens says he called 911 after discovering the store had been broken into.

"Glass was shattered so I stuck my head in the window thinking there was somebody in there and I hollered 'Hello, is anybody in there?'" Pullens said. "'Just to let you know I called the cops.'"

Sheriff's deputies didn't arrive to the store until hours later. Pullens said he waited almost more than 45 minutes and still no one came. This morning when he woke up, he discovered the yellow police tape.

The Kanawha County Sheriff's Department later released surveillance video...

Deputies say the suspects threw a rock through the front glass doors.

Once inside, suspects stole numerous items which included AT&T pre-paid cellular phones, socks, underwear, candy, cigarette lighters and Riverside High School t-shirts. The men also tried to break into the safe but were unsuccessful.

"I believe they just saw it, took the opportunity and grabbed what they could get ahold of," Sergeant B.W. Sparks said. "They're ruining their lives when they do things like this and at the time they're doing it, they're putting themselves in danger."

Sheriff's deputies said they had to wait on the business owner to arrive with the key before investigating inside the dollar store.

Pullen said after waiting an hour, he went down the street to the FasChek and told the manager to be on the lookout for anything that looked suspicious.

If you can identify of have any information about the men who broke in to Dollar General, call the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department at 304-357-0169.

This is his mother, Fonda and if Mike and I are guilty of anything, it's loving and giving him too much. I also know how wrong it was that he did that and my heart is broken. I hope he learns from this. Zack has a beautiful son, Ashton and a step son as well. I also know that it could have been on the "Dumb crook news" bullentin, but he is still my son, and I love him very much. I'm sure you posters have some kind of skeleton in your closet. I try not to judge anyone and hope for the best for everyone.

This is Zack's mother again. He hasn't even been to court yet, so a slap on the wrist he hasn't received. Also, he is from Pratt, not Cabin Creek, but he does have family at Cabin Creek and all around the Kanawha Valley. I am sure justice will be done when he goes to court. Once again, I hope he learns from this. Plus, I'm not afraid to leave my name and email address. I love the ones who leave nothing - after bashing him and his family. What are you afraid of???

I just love how this system works...he is let go with just a slap on the hand...he is obviously on drugs why would you want to steal pre paid phone cards, underwear and riverside tshirts. Also hes married so why wasnt the "wife" questioned? Surely if your husband broke into some place you wouldnt you be aware of it?
