WASHINGTON D.C. (WSAZ) – Almost $2 million in federal funding is making a one-way trip to West Virginia airports.

The grants, awarded through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Airport Improvement Program (AIP), are being used to improve airport safety by developing existing facilities and upgrading or replacing runways and other structures.

The following airports were awarded grant money by the Department of Transportation:

  • Yeager Airport
  • $1,519,902
  • Raleigh County Memorial Airport
  • $178,281
  • Fairmont Municipal-Frankman Field
  • $94,380
  • Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Airport
  • $67,450
  • Kee Field
  • $37,732

Yeager Airport will use the funds to extend a taxiway and remove obstructions, including relocation expenses and negotiation fees associated with acquisition of land.

The Raleigh County Memorial Airport will use the money to purchase a truck with a plow to enhance snow removal.

Fairmont Municipal-Frankman Field will construct a parallel taxiway with the money.

The Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Airport in Parkersburg will use the grant to install perimeter fencing to help prevent unauthorized access to the airport.

Kee Field in Pineville will use the money to clean up obstructions at the airport.

All of the projects listed will enhance the safety.

AIP was established by the Airport and Airway Improvement Act of 1982 in order to provide grants to public and private agencies for planning, development and improvement of public-use airports.

Looks like Huntington Airport missed the boat when the politicians were handing out money we don't have and can't afford.
