GALLIPOLIS, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Gallia County Deputy Sheriffs responded to a home on Blue Lake Drive in Clay Township in Gallia County.
Neighbors called the office to report that they noticed activity in the home, which is a seasonally occupied house owned by a Dayton, Ohio man. The neighbors stated that no one should be there.
Upon arriving at the scene, deputies located Bradley J. Bonice, 28, of Crown City and discovered that he had taken a hatchet and broken the lock to an outside door and then broke the glass in the door and obtained entry to the home.
Bonice indicated to deputies at the scene that he was familiar with the owner of the home. Upon calling the owner it was learned that Bonice did not have permission to be there.
Bonice is being held in the Gallia County jail and charges of burglary will be filed with the assistance of the Gallia County Prosecutors Office.
Sheriff Joe Browning stated that neighbors watching the property did a “great job in recognizing that the property had forced entry and quickly calling the Sheriff’s Office."
He also complimented his patrol staff for the "quick and efficient response to the scene.“
Sheriff Browning stated that Gallia County has several active Crime Watch groups operating in Gallia County and feels that neighbors helping each other deter crime is a key to combating burglaries and thefts.

The answer is work prisons. The prisoners should be in chain gangs and work the fields. Pay the prison workers a minimum wage that would stay in a account until they were released. The released inmates would have more of a chance of staying out of jail and we would not need all the illegals picking our vegetables.
The homeowner should be aloud to take a hatchet to this piece of trash. I would gladly pay a levy to build bigger jails with chain gangs on labor farms.
Hey "Conserned" (spelled incorrectly BTW). Yes, we may need a bigger jail, is that really the answer? But, not at the expense of our schools. City and county have been trying to build new schools for 27 years that I know of (moved here in '83)- maybe we should invest more time, effort and money into raising our kids and we'd have less of these problems. Some economic developement would't hurt either.
