Crews again responded to the CSX Rail Yard in Raceland, Kentucky.

At this point, emergency workers tell NewsChannel 3 there is sludge leaking from four parked train cars.

Officials say there is no hazardous material involved.

They say the sludge is mainly water and does not pose a safety risk.

There have been no evacuation or shelter-in-place orders.

There have been three rail yard chemical leak reports in as many weeks at the Greenup County facility.

thanx to who ever you are atleast i'm not the only one who cares about innocent children.

YA know mate, that's a pretty typical attitude you've got there... shut up and die quietly so I don't have to feel guilty for all the nice things my pay check buys. Here's a woman telling you she's afraid for her remaining children and with good cause of late, but all you can do is insult her. How many times across the country has it been learned that a company is doing something illegal or cutting corners for the sake of $ and people in the community are dying because of it? Love canal wasn't the only one to say the least. People here are concerned and speaking out, they have every right to, after all that's what our constitutional rights in the first amendment are all about so if you don't like it, don't read it. Better yet move to Iran where you won't have to hear an opinion from anyone, they're too afraid to voice any. We expect companies to act in a manner of responsibility and use safety measures to help prevent this sort of thing. We are questioning if CSX does that well enough!

first off MATE,my "SHACK" as you put it does not belong to the bank it belongs to me. I did live in bruce apt. and they are full of sex offenders.Do you want your children to live there? I have worked very hard to get where I am.All I want is for my kids to be SAFE and happy and they are far from safe here.If you have the money to sit and judge someone and you want to buy me a home and pay for us to move please by all means do. I'll give you my address so you can send me the money, but until you want to do that don't judge me because I don't want to loose anymore kids.

when I bought my house the first thing I done was to walk around the yard. Then I looked for things that I wouldnt like, like maybe a airplane flying 50 ft over the top of the house, or 500 cars driving past the front of the house. Or lets see even a train pulling tank cars less than a 100 ft from that house . Give your shack back to the bank and move back to hillcrest or let me guess the people that lived beside you at hillcrest . killed your dog an cat an give your wife a cold seems like you want somebody to blame for everything that has gone bad in your life. IF csx would close down maybe super quik would open a soup line and feed us an you. but to hope someone would get sick. the words I like to say to you would not be printed have a good day mate!!!!!

You know some of us here can't afford to move out I would sell my soul to get away from here and buy a house in a SAFE neighborhood for my kids but with the cost of living we can't afford it. I worry about my babies getting sick and dying because of CSX I have already lost one child to SIDS and I can not and will not lose anymore because someone doesn't want to do their job right. If your so sick and tired of the whining go home and don't listen.God forgive me but I hope your family members get sick because of this place then you'll see what the rest of worry about every time we go out the front door to work every day.Who needs terrorist to kill us when we have people right here at home doing it for them?????

For those who live in the area and keep on putting down the CSX, think about the next time you are unemployed and are in need of a job. I hope that you do not look at CSX because I would not want you to work for a company who has brought so much money to this area. If you are not happy with company then you should just move out of the area. CSX has been longer than you and they will continue to be longer. I have family who work for CSX in Russell and Raceland. They have been a source of income for all of us for many years. Yes, the job is dangerous but I know they have the knowledge to complete it safetly. I am getting sick and tired of everyone who do not know what the railroad does or what they provide sit around and talk about them like they do not care about anyone but themself. If you have comments about the railroad, please keep it to yourself. The families of these workers are sick and tired of hearing your whining.

Russell yard is one of CSX major rail facilities, yet their are no towers for yardmasters to oversee crews from. Only after these chemical spills took place did CSX install detection devices. When the crews who work these jobs everyday complain to management about conditions, nobody listens. CSX and every rail carrier in America should wake up and work with there employees and the communities they run through to make their work enviorment safe. They need to be held accountable for their lack of quality control where safety is concerned.

My husband is a conductor for CSX and I have one question in regards to the previous shelter in place. Why would CSX let my husband leave the Raceland yard when there is a shelter in place? Please tell me how they can justify letting him leave work but I live 3 miles away from the scene and I can not even go to work?????

The German Army first used chlorine gas cylinders in April 1915 against the French Army at Ypres. French soldiers reported seeing yellow-green clouds drifting slowly towards the Allied trenches. They also noticed its distinctive smell which was like a mixture of pineapple and pepper. At first the French officers assumed that the German infantry were advancing behind a smoke screen and orders were given to prepare for an armed attack. When the gas arrived at the Allied front-trenches soldiers began to complain about pains in the chests and a burning sensation in their throats.

According to the epa website, hydrachloric acid is a toxic chemical. The leak before that was chlorine and this chemical killed 9 people in Graniteville SC. in January 2005 as a result of a train accident. Why were we not evacuated for the chlorine leak? Shelter in place seems like the worst thing to do when you live 60 or 70 feet from the railroad.

Tuesday morning when the firemen was asking us to leave his bell was going off, when your bell goes off that means you have one minute of air left.It had already been going off for longer than a minute. If it had been a more dangerous chemical than what it actually was that poor fireman would have died on my front porch. Another question I have is why did they leave a voice mail message at 2:00 in the morning to tell us to shelter in place instead of knocking on our door. The message said to shut our windows and turn off our air conditioning. Well at 2:00 in the morning I was a sleep and both air conditioners were on and stayed on all night . If It had been a life threatening chemical my family would be dead. They were already walking up and down my street all night long, why didn't they knock on the doors? Tuesday morning, when there was a mandatory evacuation, I know one resident who was never told to leave his home, and was never checked on to see if he did leave, and he stayed!

I agree with the safety of everyone involved, but understand the railyard has been there longer than some of it's residents, why now are we complaining? My heart goes out to each and everyone of you who live close, I have family and friends who live near the railyards as well. And family and friends who work for Csx. We can not always have it our way. I pray daily for a safe return for my husband, and know that there have been some close calls for him as well. But we can not always listen to what is being presented before us by the media either. Think about this..the next time you dump some meds down the sink or put cleaner in there, where is it really going? Or you decide to pour that oil out in your yard or put pesticides on your garden or lawn. Think about it we are poisioning ourselves as well. So ask yourself is it really worth watching another Business pack up and leave? No! So stop it.

from tony ingram in jacksonville florida to gary williams in huntington to josh claus in russell, this company only cares about the bottom line. it doesnt care about any of its employees, or the communities surrounding its facilities. the tradgedy that happend the other night is just one example. having a trainee training a trainee is just ridiculus. these guys only care about their bonuses every year and will do anything from adjusting departure times to cutting jobs and scare tactics towards the employees just to make things look good on paper. they preach safety first to every employee but they really should say "dont mess with my bonus or youre fired." understaffing and overworking ones employees is not the way to run a safe operation.

the railroad doesnt care about the people that work there or the people that live around that area. they are only concerned about money. their motto of SAFTY FIRST is just a joke.

Posted by: Harold on Oct 29, 2007 at 10:21 AM
I started working for Chessie System in 1974 and Safety First was there motto. It seems that it is second now and productivity is first and management seems to be on pins and needles from the main office about not getting the work done. Just a thought from a Engineer.

I agree this whole thing has become ridiculous. Our property values are going down the tubes and fast. Twelve years ago you were lucky to find a home for sale here; now they're everywhere. Still our mayor and council seem more concerned with cosmetic details like grass height than the safety of the people who live here. They actually made an ordinance where they can take our homes through emminant domain if our grass is too tall! So pull out the hazmat gear and fire up the mower to keep a house that you can't sell anyway? I for one am taking my family out of here. Between the spills, the power outages, a cop selling drugs, whispers of misconduct by other officers and this inept mayor and council it's just not worth the trouble anymore. Our quiet, peaceful, little town has gone to the dogs!

Raceland CSX is an example of what can happen when mangement trys to save money to make the stockholders happy. This what seems to be the thougts of people living that I have talked to.

My dad has worked on CSX since '78 there has never been so many problems there until lately. I worry everytime he goes to work that something may leak out and cause him cancer, I hope they start practicing what they preach "Safety First".

Posted by: Kentucky on Oct 28, 2007 at 10:37 PM
This is getting absurd. This would make the 4th spill/leak in this area in just two weeks. Something has got to give? That is just ridiculous. Can someone please do something about this? We need answers.

I am a student at RWHS and a member of the Raceland-Worthington Community. I am really starting to be concerned with all of the accidents that have been happening at CSX lately. Many of my neighbors and family friends are employed at CSX in Raceland/Russell and we (members of the community) are starting to fear what is happening in our back yards and the potential risk of those who work there. I am also concerned for the safety of not only my self but the rest of the students and faculty at RWHS because of how close we are to the railroad. Sometime i catch myself wondering what we would do if something more serious would occur during a normal school day. How would we get out? There is no other route out of the school unless you drive with in ten feet of the railroad. I have lived in this wonderful community my whole life and we have never had theses inncedients

Posted by: Lee on Oct 28, 2007 at 09:31 PM
We all need to pray for the people that work for CSX every day they don't need to be around all this junk there and the people that live in this town. They need to bring in a safety team and look at all the cars and check them for leaks and if the shipper of the rail cars are sending them out of there place like that they need to be fined so they will take this seriously just remember people there are older people and baby's that live here and there are two schools really close to this place. And the workers there man they are just doing there job trying to feed there family like you and myself. So just keep all of us in your prayers GOD bless and good night

Vine street residents are irate with the railroad! They just keep having "mishaps"!! chemical leak after chemical leak, firefighters getting injured while responding and a fatal accident and now "sludge" who know the truth? Residents were made to leave the meeting on Thursday, why? so those in charge can get their story straight? Whats up with that?
