The WV Division of Motor Vehicles is scrapping its decades-old system for processing temporary license tags.
Next year, the agency plans to switch from paper processing to an Internet-based system.
Dealers now have to mail or hand deliver vehicle registration information to the DMV. Steve Dale, assistant to the DMV commissioner, says the new system can instantaneously register the 60-day tags.
Dale says the new system will benefit police as well as dealers. Under the current system, it's difficult for police to check the registration of temporary tags.
The DMV issues about 176,000 temporary tags every year.
