A | A | A

Some say it's a ghost, while others contend it's an angel.
Many say it's neither.
So what is it?

Do you think the blob in the video is a ghost?
Yes
No

That's the question many Parma, Ohio residents are asking.

The image showed up on a Marathon gas station's surveillance video on Saturday.

The owner says it is the first time it has appeared, and says it hung around the station for nearly 50 minutes.

Now everyone, including the owner, is trying to figure out the ghostly image.

Take a closer look and you decide!

ok, I'm little freak out but ghosts often are white, and brown, but this color is blue and this suprise me at first, but this is unquie color that caught me to look at more than the usual. but this is one thing that needs to make sense is: how did die, why is it there, and so on, but the only and the most important that we get answer from these spirits, as a result, name, questions, and so on. but there are many colors you can find out there but this is pretty unknown to me about this color and I would say that it looks a little deform, I mean the head, I can't really say that it looks like is small and the body is just strange looking but since it is at a gas station and the gas has werid color, but it's not that visable, its impossible to see gas just on a camera, so my answer (and opinion) that it is likey a ghost, unlikey gas, or none of them. Its something that we can't answer until we get that answer, and my final descion that it is something that we can't answer, a unknown thing.

It looks fake to me honestly but who knows.

Looks a little blue to me. Maybe it had gas.

My wifes family are from Mexico and so are mine and they have seen alot of funny things that are unexplainable. They talk about buired tresures that are taken care of by ghosts. Many say they are Pancho Villas people that he would buiry on top of what ever he would want to not be found. But to me those are just folk tales. I personaly never seen anything and dont want to, even though I have always told my 3 grils and wife ghosts cant hurt you. I've seen shows on TV that show people getting hurt I think its all a spirital thing. Everyone has there own beliefes and incounters with strange things and only GOD has the true answers.

i do believe it is a lost ghost that is just passing through an cant find its way

swamp gas! it was just some of that swamp gas.

Posted by: Steve HPIR on Dec 7, 2007 at 02:05 AM
While this is definitely an interesting video, it's definitely NOT a ghost. I have seen some strange video while investigating the paranormal, but there really isn't anything strange about this. It appears to me to be just some stray lint or some other type of "fluff" that drifted around the camera area. I have seen posts here that report claims that this "thing" was seen with the "naked eye", but based on what I can see in the images here, I don't think they saw it at any kind of close distance. I say it is just a piece of fluff, but that is just MY opinion.

Hey jennifer the war is the joke! Let me ask you something..whats the reason we are over there? Thats right there isnt one. W is the worst president the US has ever seen and porb ever will see well unless Cheney runs for president. Wait there is a purpose for the war...OIL!!! Since the leaders of the gov't are head of several oil companies, have you bought gas lately? I wonder whos getting that money? Uhh maybe Cheney and W!! So in my mind whatever this is a bug or whatever is definetly more important than spawn of satans war!

To MS.....Becoming a paranormal investigator usually starts with a genuine lifelong interest, not some "I saw a show and thought it'd be cool" fad. We see a lot of that. Your best bet is to find a local group that's been active for at least a few years and request to train under them. As for pay...most genuine groups are strictly voluntary, they don't charge clients, and costs generally come out of your own pocket (unless you can find millionaire to back you, I'm still looking, lol. No seriously, if there's anyone out there I'd really like a thermal-imaging camera for Christmas, again lol.) Anyhoo, happy hunting. --- David ---

Posted by: mike on Nov 19, 2007 at 06:13 AM
i think its a insect on the lens of the camera. because of the clip looks like wings flaping as it facing down then as the cars pass it blocks the view.

"Lord, Please help all of the nutcases in this world. Give them a goal and a purpose to strive for in life. Please clean the world of ignorance! It's really getting old to see how goofy some people can be. AMEN" IT'S A BUG!

Who cares what it really is it is nice to hear about something that doesn't involve theft, murder, or vandalism once in a while. Also to the "professional" paranormal investigators who do you get that kind of job anyway...and please tell me it isn't government funded.

Posted by: Donna on Nov 18, 2007 at 11:18 PM
And I thought I was gullable!!! It's obviously a piece of dust or lint that floated around, landed on the camera lens and then the wind loosened again. Wow, big mystery!!! How can you people be so gullable. Oh, if you give me $10 I'll sell you the Brooklyn Bridge!

Anyone living in Ohio this time of year knows that the cold weather has taken care of the bugs. Watch it carefully and you will see that it is observing the area. Bug? No,,,Ghost?,,,Maybe,,,Angel?,,Probably

Posted by: Shirley on Nov 17, 2007 at 10:21 AM
I belive in ghost and I have seen them However I don't think this was a ghost. Those cameras are a bit fuzzy I would say it is a dragon fly and the camera just isn't clear enough to say it was actually a ghost.

Posted by: me on Nov 17, 2007 at 09:33 AM
I would love to believe that it was an angel. I do believe in the paranormal but to me this does look like a moth. Every one is entitled to their own opinions. They can believe whatever they need. I hope it is some ones guardian angel. I rely on mine for a lot.

Posted by: DJ on Nov 17, 2007 at 09:04 AM
Wsaz is great. I happened to believe in phenomenon. I have had many experiences in my life that wasn't by chance. Make light if you wish but it is not scarilegious. Don't know what the video shows but who cares, smile and go your way.

Posted by: Miranda on Nov 17, 2007 at 05:43 AM
If you look closely right as the name Lydia comes on the screen you can see what looks like to me a dragonfly. You can see the wings flutter and the thin tear drop body. I believe in ghost etc. but this is not a ghost its a bug.

We have cameras at our store and constantly bugs get on the lense and make those images. They actually caused us to miss someone stealing copper one night while they set on the lense. I however think that it is nice to think that angels are that close and watching over us.

Posted by: BOO on Nov 16, 2007 at 08:46 PM
Looks like a bug to me. :)

Posted by: Darryl on Nov 16, 2007 at 08:10 PM
ok I do believe in the paranormal...but trust me anytone who has been watching the news, knows that we've already seen this it was back in July at a courthouse and it was provin to be a bug....so is this they both look alike, as far as the blue color it just some kind of spectrum color thing about how something right no the lens of the camera will reflect color different....but serisouly go to youtube and do a search for the Santa Fe Courthouse ghost, watch the way it moves on the camera it's the same.....it's a bug~!~

Posted by: ivory on Nov 16, 2007 at 08:04 PM
you know my mom in columbus, ohio told me about this story last night and she even taped it for me so i wouldnt miss it but i found it on your website and i think you should call ghost hunters or taps out to investagate.

Posted by: can't believe it on Nov 16, 2007 at 06:45 PM
I can't believe how many people have left comments on this story. I don't know what it is, but looks like everyone has there own opinion.

Posted by: Hannah on Nov 16, 2007 at 06:34 PM
I do believe it is a moth that is just trying to find a place somewhere high and safe to land an it was attracted to the glare of the light that was beeming from one of the lights.

Posted by: Lea on Nov 16, 2007 at 06:33 PM
I am a Professional Paranormal Investigator....this a cute story, but that all it is; a story.... If you look at the video, the station has blue florissant lights around the window area... the so called ghost in the video is some sort of bug and the light is reflecting off the bug...and most flying bugs can stay stationary for several mins at a time....

Posted by: Anonymous on Nov 16, 2007 at 06:27 PM
It's a bug on the camera lens

Posted by: Bev on Nov 16, 2007 at 06:27 PM
Come on people. The power of suggestion is why people "saw it with their naked eye". It could be anything. A shadow, light bouncing off of something, the camera shaking b/c of the wind. THERE ARE NO GHOST!! Dave you crack me up.

Posted by: anon on Nov 16, 2007 at 06:07 PM
Thats what I thought. The Mothman is back in the area again. I think I saw him flying over my house in Chillicothe the other night headed back to Pt. Pleasant, WV.

to anonymous: when did they catch the lion. that is the first time i heard about it being caught.

Posted by: Anonymous on Nov 16, 2007 at 03:44 PM
If you listen to the story, everyone who was at the gas station saw this with thier naked eye. The gas station employees and customers as well. So this could not have just been a bug on the lens because it was visible to the naked eye.

Posted by: Kelli on Nov 16, 2007 at 03:02 PM
This is a cute story. A very nice change of pace. It is a bug, though. Love all the comments this story is getting. People are so funny!

Posted by: Jason on Nov 16, 2007 at 10:21 AM
There are such things as familiar spirits. Maybe it's the Mothman...I'm joking. By it's movements you can tell it is an insect. It is even upside down on the final shot. Or it really could be the Mothman.

Posted by: Annonymous on Nov 16, 2007 at 09:34 AM
I am a believer but this is not a ghost. If you notice when the cars some into the viewfinder the object is not translucent and you can't see the car through it. Honestley by the way it is moving it looks like a bug and the camera is causing a blue hue. Plus a spirit would not be able to hold its presence that long it would require to much energy to do so. This is definately just a bug. To all you non bleievers you just haven't had a chance to experience the presence of a spirit yet and when you do I hope you are enlightened.

Posted by: Candi on Nov 16, 2007 at 09:32 AM
I know exactly what it is....I have seen it before. It is a chemical reation that occurs when you combine the fumes of gasoline and methane together. The blue gas ball seemed to dance due to the temperature which causes it to linger and the wind. The woman who claimed to see it.....she saw it all right, its because she kept releasing methane into the air. I guess she was keeping that part, a secret.

Posted by: Anonymous on Nov 16, 2007 at 08:10 AM
For everyone who says this is a stupid and not worth being on the news. You sure did take time out to write a comment and watch the video! Must not be as bad as you think! I dont believe in Ghost. BUT I do in ANGELS! Thats what I think this was. If you can't believe in Angels, Im so afraid of what your life is like without them.

Thanks WSAZ for reporting a fun article on the air and on your page. In this day and age it hurts nothing to try to uplift the spirit of people. As I have seen on this page lots of people have lost their ability to see things outside of the box. Maybe it is a bug. But to some people it gives them hope. I for one would love to believe its an Angel. It makes people believe that there is someone there to watch over them. Its a good news story. Not a murder, robbery, or drug arrest. Thats what makes it good!!!! Keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!! As for a waste of money.....Come on its not your money. They are trying to give people an uplifting story, and I believe they made their point.

Before you 'rip' WSAZ, learn Geography. This happened in Parma, thats NOT in our viewing area, it was reported by WKYC, a sister station. Its just being shared because its a cool story. Did your Mothers not teach you that 'if you can't say something nice, say nothing at all'.

Posted by: Joy on Nov 16, 2007 at 04:06 AM
Because of all of the complaints God has received concerning the rising gasoline prices, he sent an angel down to see what was going on. The angel became so outraged that he protested by whipping and twirling around the station. HE had to stay there until he forgave the oil companies, like the rest of us had to do. This took about 30 minutes.

Posted by: jackie on Nov 16, 2007 at 03:48 AM
I do believe in angels but ghosts not. I can't figure why it would appear at a gas station but who knows.

Posted by: Debby on Nov 16, 2007 at 02:51 AM
Why does the 1 woman at the gas station claims to be seeing the image beside the propane tanks? Did anyone else at the station see it also? Or is the woman lying?

Posted by: Dawn on Nov 16, 2007 at 12:10 AM
Absolutely a waste of money to air this on TV. When we should be more worried about feeding Homeless people For Thanksgiving! Thanks For the close-up of the Bug! To the 30% of people that think its a Ghost might want to get on that alien spaceship that brought that ghost here to that little bitty camera lense. Please put the crack pipes down! To everyone griping about this story not being "newsworthy" it seems everyone is taking the time to view the video and then comment on it. Matter of fact, this story has more comments then most. Newsworthy? I think it's obviously so.

Posted by: Sarah on Nov 15, 2007 at 08:26 PM
I know there are a lot of skeptics out there.. But yall are being unreasonable.. the possibility of a Angel has a very high percentage.. a bug no way... a spider unlikely... it has a small figure shape like a human.. no 8 legged creature.. it definitely had wings.. and the movement was swift and smooth like a whale in water. The Blue color is very angelic.. You skeptics need to broaden your herizons a bit and believe for one possible second in Angelic Beings.. I know, from a real personal experience with a family member Angels do exist.. and Watch over us.. Ghost no way... I do believe.. and no i am not crazy.. I am the down to earth girl next door.. I've seen some things in my days... You all need to get off your high horse and accept the possibilities... Its a nice change from all the negative crap on the news.. something fun and interesting for once.. Thanks for capturing my eye and interest.. thats a good one.. I am a beleiver.. stop and smell the roses.. you'll miss a good scent.

Posted by: K.J. on Nov 15, 2007 at 07:39 PM
Looks like an insect right on the lens, just too close to be focused. It is a pretty color, probably caused by all the surrounding lights.

Posted by: Andy on Nov 15, 2007 at 07:37 PM
This is completely ridiculous and I have lost a lot of respect for WSAZ as a news organization for reporting this. The closing line in the piece saying people now have a "nice break" from talking about the gas prices was the worst part. This isn't newsworthy and WSAZ should rethink their potential influence on the community. I don't need to be distracted from the problems we all face and a newscast shouldn't treat its viewers like children by tolerating and encouraging this superstitious nonsense. People are hopefully more interested in hearing about the severity of the gas problem then whether or not Casper likes to hang around the Marathon station's pumps. I'm sure it can be difficult to fill the alloted news time with helpful, relevent information, but maybe these "nice breaks" can be replaced with the breaking stories that matter. Forget ghosts; I want to hear about the daily, nonstop, wacky predicaments that West Virginia's number one son Jack Whittaker has gotten himself into.

Posted by: Josh on Nov 15, 2007 at 07:24 PM
Did anyone think to go and look at the camera lens to see if it was a insect? If you watch the film it looks like you can see wing. And with an insect so close to the camera it would be out of focus.

Posted by: Anonymous on Nov 15, 2007 at 06:29 PM

Hard up for news I see.

Posted by: mark on Nov 15, 2007 at 05:57 PM
This is clearly a bug. The movement is like a bug and it appears from the video that the color is off so what may be a leaf bug or something like that green in color would appear blue esp if this is fluorescent lighting.. you would do well reporting such a thing if you tried to disprove it by doing basic things that your camera man would know.

If you look at it closely, you can see its wings flapping. It's a bug on the camera lens...

Weird and interesting stuff!

From the first footage of it, you can clearly tell from its movements that it is an insect on the lens, and is a "blob" because it is too close to be focused. A spider, fly, etc... JMO

I have it on good authority that Jimmy Hoffa and Elvis both worked at this staion as night managers within the past five years. They both say this has happened several times during their terms of employment there. One night right after Elvis had cleaned the camera lens it happened. He and Jimmy decided it was a stray drip of Windex. So there, case solved.

The two guys on the news were trying to say it was something on the camera which could be. But if you noticed when the thing disappears it goes into the car wind shield. To my knowledge camera's go side to side not up or down or diagnal which is what would have happened if it was a spot on the camera. I'm not saying it's a ghost and if it is someone playing a prank on this man, nic work.

Very interesting. Has anyone checked the tape to make sure it wasn't just a problem with the camera? I don't believe in ghosts, but wouldn't it be nice to think it is an angel. Maybe somebody coming to the station that evening needed extra protection or just extra love. There are angels all around us, and the Bible tells us that some of us have came into contact with them, and not even known it. Still, I think it was a problem with the camera, but it was a peaceful color, wasn't it?

I have worked at Gas Stations with Security Equipment like this. If you look close when the blue image appears and comes across the screen you can see its legs. It's a Spider!!! I know everyone is hoping for a ghost but I have seen this a million times before and in many different colors depending on the spider, camera and enviroment. If there is ever another "ghost" on your camera, go out and look at the camera, I promise there will be a spider there!!!

I think its neat, and possibly a presence.
