Some students at Capital High School spent most of the day home from school.

The principal says several students were suspended after a disturbance during a morning break.

Clinton Giles wouldn't go into detail about the incident, but says the police were called to the school to help, but that's not unusual.

Mr. Giles says no classes were interrupted and no one was hurt.

this school is not safe at all. one student had said that their going to bring a gun to school. that had scared me and my little sister and scared my mom too. so this school is not safe at all.

Maddison, for your information there were guns and knives taken from some students. Of course the school board and Clinton Giles did'nt find that important enough to tell parents. We had to find out from our children. As for taking her to a another school out of area, some of us don't have the means to do so!

I agree with you 100% concerned, I was gonna reply to their post but you beat me. I do not get the whole east side/west side thing, are we not all Americans? It doesn't matter to me where you live or what your personal situation is, treat everyone with respect and you SHOULD get it back in return.

To Marie, you may want to get your panties out of a knot. Just because there was a fight, doesn't mean that someone is going to come in with guns. Second, if you are so concerned for your child's safety, change schools or home school her.

Does any reader find it strange that the post by "Capitol Student" is full of not only text messaging but also poor grammer and misspellings? I'm not a teacher but surly someone must notice this childs poor use of the english language. Are the parents aware of this childs lack of basic knowledge?? Perhaps if the DOE could step in, set strict boundaries for our childen while in the school, as well as monitoring of classrooms, we wouldn't have to look forward to a supporting a group of individuals through the welfare system in the near future. Don't blame the teachers....education begins at home! I hope the child reads this and takes this information to heart. Young people: Put your energy into learning instead of fighting and sending text messages. You'll have a much brighter future!

You know, if parents were still "allowed" to discipline their kids correctly.....maybe some of this crap would be stopped before it's started. I got my little butt spanked if I talked back to my parents and now a days you can't correct them in fear you might get put in jail. Most kids now days are just little brats who have everything handed to them with a big bow on it and have no pride in working for the things they get and learning the value of things.....like respect! And what I have just wrote here makes me sound like I'm age 50 but in all honestly I am 23 and graduated high school 5 years ago and believe this way. My dad was military and strict but fair and I learned how to act in a public setting. These kids just need taught a lesson cause if not they will think they can take on the world and think they are invincible and then get killed by the real "gangsters" out there. And Capital student.....stay awake in English class honey because your grammar is terrible.

I think that is rediclous. That school is still not safe and its a gang fight and intolerable. It needs to be handled.

It is a shame that I can't send my child to school and know that she is safe. This school is another Columbine waiting to happen!

I am shocked that this "incident" did not get more coverage. These Kids were scared, they were calling their parents because NO one knew what was going on. They actually locked the classrooms during 3rd period. If it was not a big deal then why were the police called? I cannot believe it is standard protocal to call them in when you are suspending students? .......

Im a student @ Cap nd let me say that most ppl dont no the have of the story. Those teens that fought this morning were jus standing up for where they live (East-side/West-side). Ive known all them teens that were fightin since grade school. Mr. Giles DID NOT have that under control. The ppl that broke the fights up was mostly other teens. I held bac many of my friends from fighting cuz i didn't want them 2 get in more trouble then they were already in. So kids came up 2 Capital jus 2 fight 2day. A couple of them dont even go 2 Cap. Bu if people think that it is over jus cuz they is kicked out of school then yall got some mews cumin 2 u.

It is a shame that I can't send my child to school and not have to worry about her safety.
