UPDATE 1/11/12 @ 4 p.m.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- William Fykes faced a preliminary hearing today on three counts of armed robbery, kidnapping and two counts of malicious wounding.
Huntington Police Detective Rob Stinnett testified that the Stonewall nightclub on 7th Avenue had closed early New Years morning when William Fykes entered with a pistol.
"There's surveillance video with audio that's pretty violent," said Detective Stinnett. "He was basically pistol whipping them. He even tied them up with phone and computer cords."
Fykes allegedly spent 45 minutes forcing employees to help in searching the club for money before getting physically violent with them.
One employee that returned from picking up pizza heard the commotion inside and called police. That gave authorities time to gather resources and arrest William Fykes after he allegedly dropped the handgun and money bag with $21,000 outside the club.
William Fykes' case will be heard at the next Cabell County Grand Jury meeting in February. He's in the Western Regional Jail in lieu of $185,000 bail. A Circuit Court judge sets bond on kidnapping charges.
Huntington Police say William Fykes, 42, is charged with three counts of armed robbery, three counts of kidnapping, two counts of malicious wounding and obstruction.
Police say Fykes walked into the Stonewall Bar about 3:30 Sunday morning and robbed three people at gunpoint.
About 25 minutes later, a witness walked into the bar, saw the suspect and walked out to call 911.
Officers arrived shortly after and surrounded the bar fearing a hostage situation.
A SWAT team was notified but before they were called to the scene, Fykes took off.
He was caught after a short foot chase.
Of the three victims, two were taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital with serious facial injuries. They are expected to recover.
The third victim was not hurt.
Police say Fykes is from Flatwoods, Ky, but.has ties to the Detroit area.
The weapon and cash from the robbery have been recovered.
Fykes is now in jail awaiting arraignment.
