Huntington Police charged 36-year old Kenny Ziegler with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

Police say Ziegler was speeding down the 12 hundred block of Elm Street in Huntington early Friday morning.

The police report says he crashed his vehicle then fled on foot. Police say when they caught up with him they found a half pound of marijuana and seven small baggies.

Ziegler was arraigned in Cabell County Magistrate Court this morning. His bond was set at $111,000. He is currently in the Western Regional jail.

Ziegler is the father of superstar athlete O.J. Mayo.

Rick, try not to use this article, which is about Ovinton Ziegler's father, as a platform to spew your nonsense views about letting drug users go without a penalty. Mr. Ken Ziegler should face the wrath of the law, and be incarcerated for the longest possible sentence, as prescribed by the law. West Virginia's drug laws, already too lenient, are not the reason its education system is in shambles.

SPOON. I think the key to remember is that everything stated was factual. WSAZ did nothing wrong mentioning his relation to O.J. Mayo. I am a fan of O.J. Mayo and hope him the best life his path can provide. But simply put there is nothing wrong stating facts, especially in a world with so many new agencies stating partial truths and reporting lies for ratings.

" With your right to vote on each law and then have them handed down by your legislator." We don't get to vote for the laws, just the legislator...most don't research who they are voting for and how they have voted on bills.

Uh, Rick I believe it says he had over half a pound. and Eddie I agree, I think they could have left that out.

As adults, we all are responsible for our actions and must face the consequences, be it good or bad. In America, we live by the constitution of man's laws. With your right to vote on each law and then have them handed down by your legislator. Although each individual may not agree with them all..... All we must obey.

The legalized sale of marijauna would create a 40 billion dollar a year shift in the economy. That is a lot of taxable revenue. The best way to control something is to embrace it. Marijauna does have its positive sides.

Was it really necessary to add that this person is OJ Mayo's father? OJ seems to be trying to be a good citizen and this is not helpful.

Minister Sunday, if you are so interested in saving souls how many times have you have you been to the jail for visitation or services? "I was in prison and you visited me not." So you will be making a trip to the prison where Kenny is incarcerated to visit him and others ASAP?

Posted by: Ryan on Jan 27, 2008 at 04:18 PM
This man did not raise O.J. He is only the man who impregnated his mom. They were not together very much at all. Dwayne Barnes became his legal guardian and helped him along his way. But he was only in it for the money, so O.J. decided to move to california and get away from it all. They say you can only trust family, but in his case, you can't even do that.

Ohio's laws are better: "Possession of less than 100 grams of marijuana is a citable offense only, with a fine of $100. Possession of 100 grams or more is punishable by a fine of up to $250. For possession of 200 grams or more, the penalty increases to a possible sentence of 6 months - one year in jail. Possession of 1,000 grams or more is punishable by 1 - 5 years in prison. Any possession of less than 5,000 grams does not carry the presumption of prison, which leaves available the possibility of probation." Taxpayers there aren't footing the bill for personal users, just sellers. We could use that money for West Virginia's subpar education system.

Rev. Keith Sunday, know that I was in full blown laugh reading your post. "If he had the Lord he wouldn't have had the pot"? Give me a break, half of just about every congregation pops pain pills for a bunch of sundry things that "hurt" them, and most even fraud doctors and pharmacies for them. Of course they would never tell the good reverend they do this, but it definitely is occurring. What I'm trying to say is, what gives you the right to judge the piece of crap in this story and ignore the hypocritical pieces of crap that pass through your church's doors every Sunday? Take care of your own house, Rev, and try leaving the judging to God, because your condemnation doesn't mean anything. It's attitudes like yours that keep people away from church in the first place...and possibly, THAT is the true work of the devil?

I went to school with Kenny Ziegler, he was good guy then. Now, if I was OJ I would be ashamed to call him my dad. I've known OJ since he was a little kid, he does not deserve all the harsh comments made. Yes he is not perfect, but you people just want to see him fail. Why? He is trying to lead a normal life as much as possible. Leave OJ out of this, he didnt tell Kenny to crash his car and carry drugs on him. Give him a break. Would you guys do the same to if this would have happened to Patrick Patterson?

Posted by: Farmer Ted on Jan 27, 2008 at 12:30 AM
I think we should ban tomatoes as well. The plant looks too much like marijuana.

Posted by: Amelia on Jan 27, 2008 at 12:30 AM
I don't understand why it had to be included that he is the father of the athlete. O.J. Mayo didn't have anything to do with this so why should it reflect on him?

Posted by: Anon on Jan 27, 2008 at 12:29 AM
The early reports said it was a pound. Guess the cops smoked the other half.

Posted by: Bob M. on Jan 27, 2008 at 12:24 AM
Anonymous. 100 grams (3 1/3 ounces) = $100 fine in Ohio whether possession or cultivation. The constitution is definitely relevant since the feds are basing their infringement of "states rights" on the Commerce Clause. Based on that if you aren't selling it or buying it you aren't affected the federal gov't in any way. Prohibition wasn't possible without the amendment. It wasn't possible to legalize it again without another amendment. Fact is the gov't is overstepping its bounds.

Posted by: Ashley on Jan 26, 2008 at 10:05 PM
Why do you all have to point out that it is o.j mayo's father. I'm sure he's not proud of that and he is nothing like his father. I think you all should have left O.j's name out.

Posted by: allen on Jan 26, 2008 at 08:21 PM
Mr Ziegler hasn't been convicted of any crime related to his arrest. He must be a wonderful man to help his son pull himself out of a place like Huntington Wva where the oppurtunities are very limited for minorities. Also I'm sure this hurts the Ziegler Mayo family, but they have always supported each other. Ms Mayo OJ mother has worked very hard to keep her family focused on school and has not let negativity steer them off course. Personally I am very impressed with the Mayo's,and the Zieglers. Lets stand behind them.

If this poor lost lamb had our Lord, and Saviour Jesus in his life, he wouldn't need to turn to the evils of drugs. But his intent to distribute is the work of the Devil himself and for that he will be punished on Judgement Day. All his sons money and fame will not redeem him in the eyes of our Lord. For that he needs to repent and seek true forgiveness

Bob M, first of all, let me say that I have yet to get caught with a half pound of marijuana in Ohio, but im willing to say that the fine is going to be stiffer than $100 .. lol Second..the last sentance is completely irrevelant.

Posted by: Spoon on Jan 26, 2008 at 04:43 AM
To STEPHEN. What's wrong is that most of the articles we read about OJ is how good of a basketball player he is and how he is and such a big superstar etc, etc. Not once mentioned his dad I bet most of the people that read this article didn't know who his dad was. Now that his dad messed up WSAZ feels like if that metion that he is OJ's dad that they will get more attention from viewers. It is wrong to use and innocent young man's name that had nothing to do with this story to get attention. Is that how his hometown is suppose to treat him?: And to "Gary",I'm pretty sure embarrassment isn't going to change a grown man's ways. Remember they probably been the way the are for more than half their lifes. And to "Yea Right" it is WSAZ fault they put OJ's name in it. Not the dads. Have you read a story about any other drug dealer in Huntington getting arrested and WSAZ puts his their kids names in the article as well??? Don't think so!!!

the man smoked it for medicinal purposes so lay off. i dont wanna hear it!!!pots not bad for peoples!!

Kenny is only a sperm donor to O.J, Dwayne was the one that raised O.J.The ole saying goes"The apple don't fall far from the tree" How many times has O.J. got caught for possession?

Posted by: Anonymous on Jan 26, 2008 at 12:39 AM
I am with everyone else whooo so it's O.J Mayo's dad. He is going to college and doing well for himself. Why does this have to be mentioned? So what it was some pot! Who cares??? Just like the media here and in Hollywood to bash a person for trying to be a star!

Posted by: The Truth on Jan 26, 2008 at 12:05 AM
Shut up! Bunch of dope smoking hippies. Do something with your life and get a job. You sound like the typical 9th grade boy who loves to spend his spare time smoking marijuana. Go ahead and tell us about the guy who would drink whiskey and want to fight, but if he smoked pot he would want to love. You are disqusting! Get a job and quit being a drain on the system! Take your legalize it ideas and go elswhere! America is a wonderful place without legal bud. Lets keep it that way. Dope Heads! Call your local tip lines and report these legalize it fools! Thanks and have a drug free day........

ONLY A PERSON THAT IS VERY UNHAPPY WITH THEMSELVES WOULD WANT TO CAUSE ANOTHER PERSON PAIN BY SAYING BAD THINGS. TO THE ONES THAT THINK IT'S OK TO HURT OTHERS I HAVE A SUGGESTION FOR ALL OF YOU..... GET A LIFE.....MAKE SOMETHING GOOD HAPPEN IN YOUR LIFE AND START BEING POSITIVE ABOUT THINGS IN STEAD OF ALWAYS LOOKING FOR THE NEGATIVE IN OTHERS....

TO BC what they should do is put them in black an white stripe suits and parade these junkies up and down main streets, then get a big crowd together then prosecute them right on the street.AS far as OJ is concerned so what he is no different than the rest of the kids, that parents get arrested for drugs.

at least it isn't heroine and i agree with everyone WHO CARES if it's O.J's dad. WSAZ is soooooooo desperate for attention adding things at the wrong time, reporting wrong, and messing everything up. By the way...you're wonderful "news crew" isn't all jolly like they seem. I've met quite a few..they're stuck up snots and judgemental just like the stories they report. O.J HUNTINGTON LOVES YOU!

Posted by: Tinka on Jan 25, 2008 at 06:27 PM
I think it's great that the police arrested another drug dealer and you feel the need to report it on your news cast. Why did you have to mention that he is O.J Mayo's dad. I do not feel that it was the right thing to do. I can only imagine how O.J feels about it. Leave him out of it he didn't do the crime.

Posted by: Sasha on Jan 25, 2008 at 05:42 PM
So what if that is his father. What does that have to do with the price of tea in China. And being a parent you always want better for your kids. And regardless of what his father does he always wanted best for his kids and all of his kids are doing real well despite the choices their fater makes for himself.

Posted by: Bob M. on Jan 25, 2008 at 04:58 PM
In Ohio he would receive only a $100 fine. De-criminalize it. It worked well for us before 1934 (Marijuana Stamp Act). They amended the Constitution to criminalize liquor. Nothing in the Constitution against marijuana.

We have an amazing young man from our area that is trying to do something with his life (O.J. Mayo). Why is it necessary to publish that this was his father. It seems like the media only wants to thrive on bad publicity and doesn't care how it affects people. He is going to take some strong criticism because of this and it is in no way his fault for what happened. Shame on you WSAZ, we should support these wonderful young people instead of trying to use them as a way to get viewers!!! This was cruel and innecessary. I have now chosen another news channel to watch just for this very reason!!

Posted by: Stephen on Jan 25, 2008 at 03:51 PM
What's wrong with publishing the fact it is O.J. Mayo's father? You would say it if he won the lottery or if he was running for Mayor, etc...

WE CAN USE THE ENTRA MONEY. I HAVE TWO KIDS.I COULD PAY UP ON THE HOUSE TAXES, OR MAYBE SOME EXTRA FOOD, FOR THE KIDS. I DO HAVE A JOB, AND PAY TAXES EVERY WEEK.$8.00 AN HOUR JOB. AFTER TAXES A WEEK I GET AROUND $220.00 A WEEK . NOW ADD THAT UP. $880.00 a month $230.00 A MONTH FOR HOUSE PAYMENT,$125.00 FOR ELECTRIC BILL, GAS BILL AROUND $110.00, now $110.00 A MONTH FOR CAR INSURANCE, GAS $55.00 A WEEK .NOW THAT LEAVES ME WITH AROUND $85.00 TO DO WHITH WHAT THE KIDS NEED, FOOD, CLOTHES, NEEDS FOR SCHOOL, AND HOUSE PRODUCTS, SUCH AS SOAP , AND SO ON. HOW DO WE AS AMERICNS MAKE IT.

I agree with "Spoon" and "Debbie", we can't help who we are born to. Keep up the good work, OJ.

Posted by: Spoon on Jan 25, 2008 at 02:24 PM
That last sentence,if I must say is quite irrelevant to the Headline and the whole story in general. O.J. Mayo loves Huntington and even came back his senior to play in his hometown. He put Huntington High on the map and with him coming back he brought the school thousands of dollars, sold out arenas, nationally telivised games, etc. You all loved showing his highlights (WSAZ), and couldn't quit talking about him, still can't quit talking about him now that he has moved on to USC and is now trying to make something of himself. So why couldn't you all save him the embarrassment of his father and not add that last sentence? Was that really relevant?

Posted by: Debbie on Jan 25, 2008 at 01:41 PM
Why would you add at the very end about O.J. Mayo? He is in CA away from here, but now the media will pick up on this. I could care less who his children are all i care is that a drug dealer is off the street. This is probably the reason that OJ went to CA was to get away from all of this small town injustice, and guilty by knowing or being related to someone. So WSAZ just let it go.
