She went through the unimaginable by losing three children in a terrible fire, but Friday night Marcia Lucas proved you can take tragedy in your own life and use it to help others.
Ms. Lucas is doing that through an organization she started. It’s called the Lift up World Foundation and Friday night was the first benefit dinner to raise money for the charity.
Although Marcia Lucas has been working on it for years, this night took on special meaning after last year's Emmons Apartment fire and the deaths of Marcia’s three children-- Ben, Angel and Quentin.
For Marcia Lucas this is a night many years in the making. It’s the first benefit dinner for her Lift Up World Foundation charity she started to help orphaned and abused children, but Marcia’s journey has been long and difficult, especially after the loss of her three children in the Emmons Apartment fire.
Marcia says all three of her children were with her every step of the way.
"One of my billboards says three hopeful hearts, two worlds apart. Who knows what a dream can start? And so, we're two worlds apart," Lift up World" founder Marcia Lucas said.
Renee Harrison runs the Golden Girl Group home in Wayne County, one of the organizations that will benefit from this dinner and concert. Lucas has pledged 10 percent of the proceeds to help the home get a sprinkler system for its latest building. It’s a sprinkler system that Marcia knows can make a life or death difference.
Marcia Lucas said the guest speaker would be former major league baseball player Jose Canseco. In fact, he's pictured on the fliers and tickets for the benefit, but he was a no show. Marcia said Canseco couldn't come due to a last-minute tragedy.

I don't see how she keeps going. She is a very strong person. I don't think I would want my life to go on even if something happened to 1 of my kids, let alone 3. And at the same time? What makes her keep going?
