UPDATE 7/17/13 @ 11:30 p.m.
CLAY COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- On Nebo School Road, there's little indication of a horrible accident that killed a teenage boy Tuesday evening.

But for neighbors like Linda Cottrell, who witnessed the crash with her 14-year-old grandson, the images are terrifyingly unforgettable.

“He started shaking and said, 'Not him, not him, and I just held him,'” Cottrell said of her grandson’s reaction to the accident.

Cottrell was immediately behind the car that hit 15-year-old Robert Lee Bowman.

The victim, who friends and family call Robby, was a good friend of
Cottrell’s grandson Dalton.

Bowman is from the Duck area of Clay County, but Cottrell said he was in the area Tuesday looking for Dalton.

“He said, 'That's my friend grandma, and I said I know it is,'” Cottrell said of when Dalton discovered the boy hit was his friend.

The accident happened about 5:30 Tuesday evening.

Bowman pulled onto W.Va. 16 from Nebo School Road when he was hit by the car, according to West Virginia State Police.

Bowman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cottrell said the news has devastated her grandson.

Family friends tell WSAZ.com simply that they miss Bowman.

Investigators say Bowman was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, though it wasn’t fastened properly.

State Police said no charges will be filed against the driver because she couldn’t see Robby from the road.
